Recuperation
Ah...December 25th. The day I prepare for months in advance has come and gone. The day we tear open carefully-wrapped gifts, gather friends and family near to share in the beautiful decorations and over-indulge in feasts aplenty. Yes, there is nothing like Christmas Day.
But it's the days AFTER Christmas I enjoy the most. Time now to play with new toys (a Wacom graphics tablet, thankyouverymuch) and "recuperate".
- Recuperate from the house scrubbing, holiday baking and post-feast mountain of dishes.
- Recuperate from too much chocolate, turkey, eggnog and plum pudding.
- Recuperate from taking care of a sick daughter, dog AND cat (gad, I need hardwood floors).
- Recuperate from the lack of sleep (there's nothing like the age-old tradition of wrapping at 2 am on Christmas Eve).
- Recuperate from the hoards of shoppers on Boxing Day (yes, I was that foolish - but I DID get the three items I wanted).
Other than daughter's flu which struck on the 24th, took a short hiatus on the 25th (thank goodness) but returned full-force yesterday, everything went off without a hitch.
All the preparations paid off.
And believe it or not, in a few short months I'll be planning for next Christmas all over again.

Sorry to hear your daughter was sick at Christmas. That's no fun at all. Do tell about Boxing Day. I've heard of it but don't know anything about it! Love those cat photos, even if they are obligatory, BTW! Happy New Year to you! Janet
I too am curious about this Boxing day?
I have images of Mike Tyson punching people at the malls...
Hi! Are all 3 cats yours? Is the top one a Himalyan? My fave cat... I thought everyone knew what boxing day was but maybe it is just a Canadian thing? Hope your daughter is better soon!
The days after are the best...a chance to curl up with my new books and read, listen to my new music, and just relax.
JP & CTD: Boxing Day is celebrated in the UK and Commonwealth (of which Canada is a part). Here is a link to the Wiki entry that explains its origins:

Now it's simply a day for people to get up ridiculously early to go catch big sales at stores; similar to your day after Thanksgiving - Black Friday.
DJ: Yes, all three kitties are ours. The top photo is of our youngest, Tawnee who is a 5 month old Ragdoll - my favorite breed.
Yeah, I hope daughter is better soon too... poor kid.
Hi Maureen:
Just stopping by to wish you a very happy and healthy New Year!
Glad you had a nice Christmas and sorry your daughter was sick!!
Take care!
Linda
Hi Maureen,
I'm glad to hear that everything went so well, except for your daughter's flu. It is nice to sit back and know it is over, isn't it?
Thanks for visiting my blog and putting your 2 cents worth in about the images. It's been really helpful.
What's a graphics tablet anyway?
Hi Maureen.
Despite all the illness in your home, it sounds as though a good time was had by all.
I hope your daughter is now on the mend and the pets are back to themselves.
Christmas is over and now we look forward to a bright New Year.
May your New Year bring you good health and happiness.
Hugss Jo
Linda: Thank you. After a horrible night Thursday, she is doing better now... fingers crossed it lasts.
Irene: Yes, it's great being able to relax now. As a matter of fact, I have started my first digital painting using my graphics tablet. It's an input device for the computer; using a stylus (pen) on a tablet... it is great for artists who, like another blogger so eloquently put it, makes using the mouse like using a brick to draw. I am hoping to post some of my work in the future.
Thank you so much, Jo! Our best to you, Hubby, Paddy and Marmite in '08 too.
I just love your kitty pics. Sorry to hear your daughter got the flu. And ah yes, the recuperation. It always feels like we achieved something really great when we've made it through the holidays! Hope you have a great New Year!
Glad you had a great Christmas...I hope ev1 is feeling better today. The kitties are so purdyyyyy...thanks for sharing the pics.
Have a wonderful and safe (and puke-free) new years..lol
ug. Sucks being sick at Christmas. Happy NY to you and yours. xo.
Aww being sick on Christmas sucks. Having to clean up after one who is sick on Christmas is even worse, especially dogs and cats. So sorry! But I agree with you about the days after Christmas. Usually my favorite time, coming down from that Christmas high.
