Procrastination

I'll bet you have that song stuck in your head now... (Sung to the tune of "Anticipation")

"Procrastination.

Procrastina-a-tion.

I'm making you wait.

Making you wa-ya-ya-ya-yait."

So apparently last week was "National Procrastination Week".

I don't believe I require an official Week to remind me NOT to do something. I am very good at acheiving that myself thankyouverymuch. Even though I have severe OCD, there are some things I hate doing and put them off for as long as humanly possible. I'm constantly re-shuffling (re-priortizing, if you will) jobs at work, placing "Should Dos" at the bottom of my To Do pile.

Sometimes though, Procrastination can work to my advantage.

There have been many instances that by the time I reach the depths of that To Do pile, either the person requesting the vile task forgot they ever asked, or it's no longer even needed.

Which convinces me that 50% of the work I'm assigned isn't that important anyway.

So Procrastination has, over the years, become my Filter of Useless Assignments.

Not that I'd ever be foolish enough to admit that fact to anyone here at work.

Oh, and I had already drafted this story awhile back, and meant to post it LAST week, but then, well.... you know me...

Technically I should wait before I comment here, but then I wouldn't be #1!

Ahhh. Procrastination. My middle--no wait--my last name.

Procrastination was the first thing on my list of bad habits to fix,but I had to put it off due to other commitments.

HOW did I miss National Procrastination Week?!?!?!

My problem, is that I have six or seven differnet to-do piles. So, I think I'm making progress, but I'm really not. It's a nightmare. I can't help but procrastinate.

Ed (zoesdad) said...

I handle my to-do pile a bit differently. I figure if it sits long enough that I forget what is in it--must not be that important and I throw it all away.

(Note: I have come to realize that I would much rather tackle my to-do list than have my wife leave a list for me. Can you say unrealistic expectations?)

I'll leave you a comment tomorrow.

Procrastinator Extraordinaire. That's what my wife calls me! It's a title I've become rather fond of, and quite proud of! Although, eventually all that stuff I kept putting off catches up to me, then I'm in a pickle trying to get everything done by deadline... oh well... I'll get back to it... later...

I've avoided ALL useless assignments by just not going into work at all!

My other comment is on how entrenched Heinz has made that song by Carly Simon! Wow...that is the power of advertising.

Oh yeah...I am the ultimate procrastinator! And I found the same to be true of my old job...50% of the work was really not necessary

I have it too about some things, but I figure it is about things that make me nervous and I really don't want to do them.

It's true, eventually they stop being important. Like mail that you can toss into the paper recycle bin, that's always a great feeling.

Ironing, however, can not be recycled and has to be done. I am facing that fun job now and I know I must do it, but I postpone it every day.

Jeff: This is true; you can’t be a procrastinator and still be #1. Unless you’re the Number 1 Procrastinator!

Mamma: Heh. Heh. “Paging Mrs. Procrastination.”

Peggy: Har! Great one!!! I’ll have to remember that!

Bananas: It seems EVERY week there is some weird designation… I just happened to hear it on the radio, otherwise I’d never have known either…

Momo Fali: Well at work, I HAVE to have a single To Do pile, or I’d go crazy. At home, though? Now THAT’s a different story.

Ed: Heh. Heh… Ah, the LIST. I have never once tried that one on hubby… I knew it wouldn’t do any good. And it would only waste paper…

Damon: LOL!!! I’ll be waiting… ;)

Phoenix5: Ah, a PE!! I am honored to be in your presence. Yeah, some things never disappear; no matter how long you ignore it…

VE: Sounds like a good plan… and yes, I was wondering if people still associated that song with ketchup.

Lunanik: Hah! I KNEW it! But, shhhhhh… my boss may be listening!

Sweet Irene: I agree. Some things I put off because I have a sneaking suspicion I may not be ABLE to do them. And you’re right about the mail; I would say 80% of it is instant trash. Ironing… grrr. I only do it when absolutely necessary. I’ve convinced myself that wrinkled clothes are cool… ;)

When I was in college I had a poster that had the Procrastinator's creed printed on it. Here's the creed in digital form: http://www.humorbin.com/showitem.asp?item=867

CableGirl: Oh, that was hilarious!!! I think I need to print that off and hang it in my office. Thanks so much for the link!

Thank you!

I love that the post starts with the statement National Procrastination Week was LAST week. Your comment at the end was exactly what I was thinking. And I had more important things to say too but I waited too long to comment and forgot most of them.

I was just blog hopping and I have to say I love your blog. I love the way it looks, i love the title, I love everything. I would rather be blogging too.

Lady Banana: Glad to hear I'm not the only one... I wonder if it's a universal thing? ;)

VP: Hee. Hee. Actually, when I heard it was Procrastination Week last week, I told daughter that it was weird because I had already drafted a post about being a Procrastinator... and that I should post it. But then, I told her it would be even better if I waited another week....

Aw, thank you 1stopmom! I loved popping by your blog too for some treats! Happy Blog Hopping !

My whole family is good at this. I LIKE this holiday! Visually elegant blog - how cool!

Lady Banana: Yes, I had two in fact; I try to keep careful watch. Luckily, since I'm such a comment whore (always checking... so sad I am...) I can delete them quickly. Thank you! Hope you don't get any more.

Jen of a2eatwrite: I agree. EVERY week should be Procrastination Week! And thanks for the kind compliment!

I was going to post a comment on this, but I will get around to it later.....much later.

Hey, that's another thing I do well. Completely forgot about that. I find that blogging fuels my procrastinator tendencies. You?
