One Day

We interrupt this regularly-scheduled blog post for the following Breaking News:

Holy Moly Crapoly!

I reluctantly tear myself away from the laptop for two days of Holiday Cheer (yes, that's what I'm calling it) and an incredible thing happens... I'd Rather Be Blogging gets chosen by Google's Blogger as a Blog Of Note on Christmas Day!

As a result, I have been blown away by the number of new readers, followers and wonderful emails I have received. Thank you. Thank you all.

I plan to spend the day answering each and every one. After all, if you have cared enough to stop and write, I should too. However, since I am used to answering a dozen or two comments in the past, the prospect of nearly a hundred comments and emails is quite daunting and has caused me to break out in a cold sweat.

I think I need a shot of "Holiday Cheer" again.

Good thing I already had a post written to keep you busy whilst I put up my feet and get to typing:

ONE DAY

One Day I had reluctantly come to terms that Christmas was coming. And coming fast.

Then One Day I scrutinized my filthy carpet -- since I shared my abode with one dog and three cats, it definitely needed shampooing before company arrived.

So One Day I rented the Rug Doctor and spent One Day dragging it back and forth across the whole house, filling and refilling, moving furniture and sloshing water everwhere.

One Day I admired my nice, clean carpet with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Casey
Because the next day, the dog hurled on it once more.

One Day.

That's all I had a clean carpet for.

One Measley Day.

Aw, what an adorable puppy!!! Poor thing... Did he eat too fast or something? I'm sorry your clean carpets got messed up again, heh.

Isn't that just the way it goes... my mom used to say, "Housework is like stringing beads with no knot at the end of the string." So true!

I want to follow your blog, but my dad is not convinced this is a safe blog for me to read. Please reply and let us know that there will be only PG13 content at most, then this 10 year old can happily follow you.

Congratulations Maureen! Your blog is definitely very cool. I love it. So creative and funny!!

Sorry about your rug though. We've stopped trying to clean it and just keep buying area rugs to cover all the accidents.

Anonymous, you have nothing to fear. let your parents read a few of Maureen's archives and they'll find it very family-friendly. No curse words, no rants, no politics, just good fun from an excellent and creative blogger. The comments we leave are also completely appropriate. :)

Congrats on the Blog of Note! I know at least two other bloggers who had their blogs SHOOT way up in terms of traffic and commenters. It's apparently quite a big deal!

A WOMAN'S WORK IS NEVER FINISHED! SO I HAD BEEN TOLD AS I GREW UP & IT IS TRUE! I GET TIRED OF CLEANING AND CLEANING WITHOUT ANY LASTING EFFECT! IT CAN BE ANNOYING AND FRUSTRATING! CONGRATULATIONS ONCE MORE; I REALLY DIG YOUR GRAPHIC DISPLAY ON YOUR BLOG. HAPPY NEW IN ADVANCE.

Hey, can I have your autograph? Can I stalk you now? Wait. I'm already here.

Sorry about the carpet. ;-(

Congratulations! Then I always knew yours was a blog of note ;) Sweet doggie too!

Maureen: Thank you for your blog - it's cheered me up at a time when I've really needed it. Keep up the good work, and please keep them coming!

Richard said...

Congrats on Blog of Note! Of course that's where I noticed yours, and such an awesome post. That's probably what's going to happen as soon as I move in June/July and get a pet, lol. Cute puppy!

Congratulations on your worthy achievment. You totally deserve it! :)

I did the same thing once and had clean carpets for four hours, then my cat hurled a furball. Lucky me.

Oh my goodness, that is so realistic! As soon as I wash the kitchen floor, it is covered with muddy paw prints again. Congratulations of being a blog of note!

Ed said...

Well, at least you had a day. My floors are usually dirty again before they've completely dried.

Nice blog, I like your Xmas decorations and the whole look and feel. You have a few bells and whistles that I really like. I hope to add some to my own, but I don't want to loose what I have so far.

I really enjoyed your site. I can't imagine the amount of time you have taken to put it all together in such an aesthetically pleasing way. I guess my comment is more about how you choose to share your thoughts, the blog, rather than current events. I did like the "I shampoo" this and that and then the puppy. :)

Love your layout of your blog!

That dog is too cute!

I feel your pain, my mate and I cleaned her carpet ready for viewings as she is trying to sell her flat.

Less than a week later I was flat and cat-sitting whilst she went away for the weekend and I looked up just in time to find her slightly overweight cat doing what can only be described as a bum-shuffle across the floor.

That was fun to clean up.

Pets....who'd have 'em??

Kathy said...

Congratulations, Maureen! You need to make a Blogger of Note badge that you can flash around now! Like JD said, we're aware of other bloggers who hit the big time this way. Awesome!

I used to have to shampoo my runs constantly because of the messes one cat used to make (Calvin, RIP). I'd only enjoy the cleanliness for the weekend, if I was lucky. I know your pain.

Congrats on becoming Blog of Note :)

Ha! Congratulations! What a fantastic Christmas present! :-)

I can't wait to read your 89 responses to your last post and all of these (hey, you said you would) especially the Chinese ones!

It doesn't really surprise me though that your blog was selected. I mean, your Cookie-Toons post was probably the single greatest blog post ever published in the history of blogs.

Lyrabela said...

That is such a cute doggy. ^^ ...I have a question for you, I have been, for months, trying to figure out how to customize my new blog. The layout that is. ^_^; How did you do it??

Autumn Mist said...

A lovely blog - of course you're 'blog of note'. I am in love with Sam, and your puppy looks so sweet. I'll drop by again sometime soon.

Maureen said...

Aw thanks Jennifer! Who knows WHY they upchuck... and how the heck they pick THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT to do it... ;)

Kate: Ha! Now I HAVE to remember that one! Perfect!

Lady Banana: Thank you so much! It is exciting and overwhelming!!

Anon: Oh, I hope you feel (or your parents feel) it is appropriate. I try not to use language any harder than the occasional "crap" (okay, perhaps a tad more than occasionally) and I stay away from adult-only themes. So I do hope they approve. Thank you for stopping by!

Aw, thank you Jo-Jo. You are always too kind... you're a gem and a good bloggy friend.

JD: It is the biggest deal I this little blog has experienced, that's for sure! Last night I took a peek at my stats. On December 23rd I had the usual 31 visitors. In the past two days I have had nearly 20,000.... that is just ridiculous!

Happy New Year to you too The nitty-gritty tales of a housewife! Yes, you are right; the housework never is DONE. I just have to come to terms with that fact. The worst thing is, I'll clean something, only to find 10 more things that look even worse around it. Gad.

Ahahaha Reforming Geek! Yeah, it definitely is time to replace the old 23 year old carpet...

Aw, Babs you always are such a sweetie. Thank you my friend.

Oh Rose, you are welcome! You know, there is nothing better to hear than the fact that something you wrote cheered someone else up! Thank you so much; I am blushing.

Richard: Two words for new pet owners: TILE FLOORS.

Ha Ha VP! Yes, I am torn between frustration at the once-clean carpet and concern for the pet. However, since they are prone to hurl and the drop of a hat, it is usually no big concern for them...

Thank you In Real Life! Well, at least in winter I don't have to deal with mud.... they save that little gem for Spring.

Ha Ed! Well, with as many kids as you have, I am not surprised one bit!

Editor: The best way to change your template is to set up a test blog and make the changes there. If it works, then copy the code to your real blog. That's what I do and it works really well. Just make sure you have your test blog viewable to you only. Good luck!

Thank you so much Dude, so nice of you to say. It did take a bit to tweak and change things, but it is in a constant state of flux; I don't think, like housework, my blog will ever be DONE. ;)

Maureen said...

Thank you Sarah! Welcome!

Jet: Thank you for your compliment! Thanks for popping by!

OMG Sproglet! That was hilarious! I can just see it scooting around... I would have freaked! Ahahahaha! Thanks for sharing that!

Aw, thank you Kathy. Whew, I don't know how the heck you can keep up with all your commentors! I am not used to this at all! And good idea about the badge.... hmmmm.... ;)

Thank you Alisa, and welcome!

Ha Ann! Yes, indeed! I wish I could pull this old carpet up and chuck it all! One day... one day...

Thank you Daisy! Coming from a Famous Bloggy Kitty means a lot to me!

Ahahaha Jeff! Thank you. Yes, you inspire me to greatness, no? And I did respond to each comment; er, the ones I could READ that is....

Lyrabela: What I did was searched and searched for a good "starting point" blog; one that already had most of the features I wanted, then I played around with it on a test blog until I got it the way I wanted. I am constantly tweaking it though; there are always new features I want to try out. It tooks weeks to learn the coding, but by trial and error, I was able to learn what did what. Probably not the best way to learn, but I got a real geeky thrill when something turned out the way I wanted it to ;) Good luck!

Aw, thank you Autumn Mist! Yes, Sam needs to return soon; it has been too long since she has appeared here. Welcome and thank you for stopping by!

Congrats on your Christmas Day surprise award, but don't forget us humble folks that have been hanging on your every word for the past 3 years!

On that note, try and find time in your busy schedule (and rug shampooing) to take my blog roll survey. Only 7 questions and I will post the results early next years.

Copngratulations! I just happened to check the Blogs of Note (which I NEVER do) and found you. Must be fate--I am picking up remnants of a flash light Charlie the springer spaniel had for lunch :)

It is weird how, in this blog, we sound so much alike. We both have destroyed carpets because of the dog, we both have three cats, we both used the carpet cleaner all day for the holidays. I may just be awed because I'm kinda loopy right now, but still.

Nutz Nadia: Poor carpet you mean! ;)

rln!: Aw, thank you. Good thing you can't hear me now... I'm singing along to my iPod. Not pretty, but no one can hear me but the animals... poor things.

Thank you Michelle, and welcome! Yeah, good thing the little furballs are so cute....

Ha Susan! Thank you. A flashlight? Holy crap...

Mahoney Musings: Oh yeah, beauty eh? I loves my Great White North home as much as I love Poutine and Back Bacon.

Chjeme: Ha! My sincere condolences that we are so much alike ;)

Ha Momo! Yeah, a whole day. I was like, in heaven. Shortlived, but a wonderous time indeed.

Ha Haydee! No way I'm a pro... I'm more of a hit-and-miss-lucky-and-amazed-when-it-actually-works type of person.

Organic Meatbag (Ha! Your name kills me!): Thank you so much! Welcome!

Ahem! I am one of "those" people who found you thru Blogs of Note (as opposed to those oth-er people who already knew how swell and talented and funny you are).
I know it's late, but can I join the party?
Thanks ever so much in advance!
PS:
re: dogs vs. carpet
Dogs always win. Go with hardwood floors

Maureen said...

Paintnpencil: Oh the dog is just fine; she tends to have a very sensitive stomach, so any small upset results in me on my knees cleaning up the carpet... usually in the middle of the night. Thanks for stopping by!

Aw thank you so much 2416966! You are too kind!

Tony, thank you so much! Welcome!

your welcome umm in the fall out boys post you said you live in canada do you speak french i was just wondering because im learning french....

Maureen said...

2416966: I know a teenie tiny bit (from a long time ago in high school). But that's all... I live in Central Canada; most of the French communities are in Quebec (more east), so luckily for the French I rarely mutilate their lovely language.
