Roll Up The Rim
First I must preface this post by stating unequivocally that I am not a Tim Horton's person.
Gasp you may (I heard you), but this Canuck prefers Starbucks. And not just because my daughter is a Barista (but it helps when you get your coffee and tea free). I was a fan of Starbucks before she was hired there over two years ago - I was so proud, * sniff *.
But I will admit the only time I DO go to Timmy's is during "Roll Up The Rim" time.
Although I really don't know why I bother. The last time I spent a fortune played, I went down to our small in-hospital Tim's on a daily basis for weeks on end, only coming out with three freebees. Two coffees and a donut, I believe.
Oh sure, you may say, "well, at least be satisfied you won something you ungrateful twit!". And you'd be right (except for the twit part), I SHOULD have been satisfied.
Until I heard that someone here won a car.
That someone was a doctor.
Damn you Timmy's.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go get my double-double.

I wouldn't even win a coffee! Oh wait, I did get a buy one get one free pizza the other day, from O2 (mobile supplier).
Sadly, the saying 'money goes to money' seems to be true.
Just curious, what's more popular up here. I never seem to see an ad for Starbuck's in Canada, but Tim ads are everywhere. Just sayin'.

NoOO don't say that! Starbucks is terrible. Tim HOrtons is a canadian institution. We love Timmy's! My boyfriend takes 4 or 5 of them practically every mornin to work with him . It's usually extra large triple triple . yummm! they are so good ,and yes the roll up the rim to win is just a perk. I have won free coffees and donuts but that's about it .
Just like when the 90 year old wins the lottery. There's no justice...

You know I *never* win anything. I can't even *think* of a time when I won something.
So yeah....I'd go for the coffee, couldn't eat the donut, but a free coffee yeah that would work. Of course I agree a car would be nice *if* it had enough cup holder. If it didn't have enough cup holders it would be a pretty lousy prize from a coffee place!
You might check that over before thinking that doctor who won the car was so lucky! The dude may have had to pay taxes on a large prize that he couldn't even sit his cup of coffee in! Wow...now that would just ruin a person's day!
I don't go Timmy's on a regular basis either, but I do buy copious amounts of their coffee to brew at home. Other than that, it's a Starbucks latté for me.
Oh yeah - I did win a free coffee at Timmy's once. My daughter worked there at the time. Coincidence? Perhaps ...
I am so jealous. I love Timmys. I miss their coffee so much because I'm in Mexico. My Canadian visitors always bring me down coffee though. It's not so much the coffee as the memories and the fact that T.H's is what I consider Canadian.

I knew there was a reason I liked you! I too am a Starbucks fan. Tall, non-fat, no-whip, extra hot mocha! Timmy's makes me jittery and shakey all over. Since I don't win ever I don't bother trying. I don't even win so much as a donut.
Starbux is everything that's wrong with America. Timmies has slowly made it's way into New England but not to Washington yet. I do love the Timbits though!! I try to get some whenever I'm in Canada.
I used to hate it when other people won big prizes. Until I won a trip to Paris on a $10 raffle ticket. It. Was. Awesome.

I have that board game "Cranium" but it's the Canadian Edition. One time with friends here in CA we decided to play, and the opposing team got one of those fill in the blank clues. It was basically "Rrr___l __ _h_ Rrrr_m to W__!" And the clue was "Coffee Cup Contest". I was in hysterics as they pondered the clue ("no words start with multiple r's!") and of course once they saw the answer they were just angry. The next clue they got was to whistle or hum the theme tune to "The Littlest Hobo" (something this Canadian could never even do). Needless to say the game ended there and has never been resurrected since.

I keep rolling, and drinking. Not a huge fan of Timmy's, but even less of Starbuck's. Haven't one a thing yet. One year, I won three coffees in the first three days. I was insanely thrilled.
Well my theory is that the people that don't need them have more disposable income, therefore, can play more, and therefore, have higher odds of winning. ;)

The only thing I ever get during roll up rim time is hot coffee in my lap!
I adore Starbucks but miss this little place in Allen, TX that made a delightful white chocolate mocha.
As for winning, I agree with what Richard said. Those who have more $$$ in their accounts can afford the odds in the winning.

Okay, being from Iowa, it took me a minute to figure out what Tim Horton's is. I must say that from the cup (colors and all), I thought perhaps Tim Horton was some type of cleaning product! lol Thanks for educating me, Maureen!
Is that their coffee cups? When I saw the picture I thought it was Raid lol. Don't throw rocks at me, but I hate Starbucks! I think they are rather overrated. I prefer Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (although they only exist in certain states like CA) & Dunkin' Donuts. :)
I never knew what Tim Horton's was until they featured it on an episode of How I Met Your Mother when Robin and Barney went to Canada. They got coffee there in the morning. And I think Barney said something snarky about the place and got beat up for it. :)
I don't think we have that here. We just have Starbucks and then local places. I think. But then, Houston's really big. So you just unravel your cup and maybe win something?
Very cute blog! I'm lucky I don't even like coffee, see? No temptation to play and then no letdown because I would have the luck to win a donut while a colleague won a cat. You need to get chummy with the doctor!

I remember when McDonald's had some kind of scratch card game when the boys were young. Boy, did we go in there a lot, and seldom won anything. LOL!
Sorry, I'm a Tim's girl. Starbucks is a little too steep for me most of the time... I might change my tune if one of my kids were a barista.

Ha! So I'm not the only one rolling up the rim with "Please try again" results. A doctor? Proof that my mother was right - Life really isn't fair! :)
I fought the Starbucks bandwagon for a long time, and then one day, minding my own business strolling along in a supermarket, I sipped a Frappuccino sample. That was it for me. I'm still not a fan of their brewed coffee ... too strong for me. But when it's mixed into a Latte, forget about it! It's really good. My favorite Starbucks poison is Berry and Creme Frappuccino. It's hard to pass it up. Maybe there's a 12-step plan.

I will never pay more than $1.50 for a cup of coffee....I don't care how good it tastes......I have to have limits somewhere......coffee is a start.
