Messages From Above
A few weeks back, Daughter's Spring Break shopping trip to the States with her friends fell through. Dreams of blissfully wandering the halls of Bath & Body Works, Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch were dashed.
She was crushed.
So, being the fantastic unselfish mother that I am, I stepped up to the plate and arranged our first "Girls Only Spring Break U.S. Shopping Excursion".
Just the three of us; my daughter, me and yes, Sam.
To Grand Forks and Fargo. We had the hotel booked, a car rented and U.S. money purchased.
Then came a major flood you may have heard about in the news.
Next, a blizzard dumped 20 cm of snow here.
I was beginning to think someone upstairs did NOT want us to drive to America. But dammit, I was determined to get us there. I even had the crazy notion to FLY to Grand Forks. I mean, how expensive could it be to fly somewhere that is a mere 2 hour drive away?
Holy crapoly!
But the Gods didn't keep us from doing our part to aid the U.S. economy... we went alright. I changed our destination to Minneapolis via a more eastward 8 hour route, and prayed that the Red River valley flood wouldn't close down the highways before we returned.
Or that the next plague to hit wasn't locusts.

what???? That rivals our flight price to Hawaii. Holy God! Godspeed girls. Spend a lot and have a blast!!!
Well, on behalf of America (who has kindly given me the authority to speak for her) I thank you for braving snow, flooding, and Biblical plagues to visit and spend!
What an adventure that must have been, and I assume we will hear the rest of it in another post?
Maureen:
You guys should fly out here to California. You could warm your frozen bones on one of our beautiful sunny beaches, then hit the mall for some serious shopping. No snow drifts, no flooding, no tornadoes, no hurricanes.
Happy trails.
America appreciates your shopping dollars! I can't believe that flight was so expensive! So you drove 8 hours instead of 2??? You are a great mom. I hope you had a fun shopping trip.
Well I hope the trip was enjoyable after an eight hour drive!
What a ridiculous price tag !
Do follow up !
I think it's great you're helping them out of their current financial situation :)
You will have photos tho, right?
Ann(ie): Hah! Now if only we could do Hawaii, THAT would be great! Oh, yeah, we spent, we blasted!
Shawn: You are welcome. And thanks for having all the cool stores our Canuck teenagers simply MUST patron!
The Gossamer Woman: It was so much fun; and yes, many more posts to come on our adventures!
Swubird: Oh I wish we could go back... we were there in 2005; did the Disneyland and Beverly Hills vacation. I would love to go back! Just be prepared for an earthquake if I get back there tho, knowing MY luck...
JD: Yup, our "short" trip to the US turned into an all day driving fest each way. We made sure we broke up the long drive with a few detours though; shopping and even visiting a certain blogger friend again.
Babs: It sure was. I surprised myself at tackling the drive all by myself; something I have never done before, but that I enjoyed immensly!
Jaffer: Isn't it crazy? It would have cost one-third the price to fly to Prague, apparently... but I am almost positive Prague doesn't have a Hollister store. And yes, posts and pics to follow, you can be sure!
Drowsey: Ain't I just the good Northern Neighbor??? We contributed greatly to the Minnesota economy, that's for sure. Now I have to go through a few HUNDRED photos to post just the best ones.
Why are plane tickets to short destinations so expensive? I would think it shuld cost less to fly somewhere quick. Less fuel used etc. Boggles my mind.
Did you go to the Mall of America? I am jealous.
I for one am glad you're such a fantastic and unselfish mother... otherwise I would never have gotten to meet Sam!
Glad you had fun... and REALLY glad you made it home safe. :-)
Vegas Princess: Oh, yeah. The Mall of America was our final destination... we literally spent every possible minute there from 10 am to 9 pm for two straight days!
A Certain Blogger Friend: Ahahahaha!!! Well, we couldn't drive right by without seeing ya again now could we??? No Way! And Sam thanks you for the drink... all three of us had a terrific trip!
Thank you for infusing some $$ into our economy! Was the shopping trip worth the long ride?
Lady Banana: I know, right? Kerazzy. But yes, we had a wonderful time. More posts all about it to follow.
JoJo: You are most welcome... and yes, the trip was half the fun! I really enjoyed the drive in a 2009 Trailblazer... what a great ride through the scenic rolling hills of Minnesota. Although if you ask my daughter, the whole thing was purely to get to the final destination of the Mall of America.
What a brave mom!! So now we want to hear all about the excursion... :)
