A Word To The Wise

Never.

Ever.

Try to drastically change your blog template unless you are on vacation for two weeks straight.

And are daft enough to actually waste those two weeks glued to your computer screen, that is. I wasn't THAT crazy. Oh no. I wasn't on vacation so I spent every frickin' evening and weekend day on this thing.

Fourteen days of cursing, swatting curious cats from the keyboard, the odd yelp of joy when something DID finally work, and various attempts of trying unsuccessfully to explain to my family exactly why I've been ignoring them for a fortnight.

I don't think they believed me. Especially hubby. Whenever I tried to convey my latest problem, his eyes would glaze over and he would simply respond with "so you're almost done?"

Yeah, I worked on this puppy until I was literally dreaming of code. But it was worth it. I still have to finish my "bling" page and some other minor things to work out, but I was bound and determined to get this up today.

I hope YOU thought it was worth it too.

Now I'm off for a stiff drink; and will be back with a regular post tonight.

Gad I hope it's still here when I get back!

You did all this in Blogger? It's really cool. I didn't think I would like a change, as I loved your blog design, but this is great!

LOOKS really good...albeit frustrating. Kindly have a stiff bevvy for me, too. :)

Babs: Yup! I always wanted to have more tabs and such; so when I came across the Notepad Chaos theme for Blogger; I knew I just HAD to make one for my own. Thanks for the compliment!

Ann(ie): Thanks so much. Oh, I DO hope you mean frustrating while coding; I hope the new layout isn't frustrating you! And sure, I'll have a second just for you ;)

Wow, it looks amazing! You are so talented! It was worth it, your blog looks so unique compared to all the other standard blogger blogs. Congratulations!
P.s. typing "blogger blogs" seems funny. Bloggity blogger bloggaloo.

I love it! It is both soothing (the nice yellow color) and exciting (all the cool graphics at top. Nice job and well worth the wait and all the sleepless nights. That tab thing is cool.

Ah, I see what you mean. Last time I said I liked what I saw, but this is better. You're right about too much white previously. Nicely done. Hope you enjoyed your drink. :)

Oh... bad idea. You've now successfully revealed yourself as a Blogger template master. People are lining up as we speak for free tips and advice on how to professionally dress up their blogs. Have fun with that.

In other words... your new template looks fantastic and I'm insanely jealous of your talents.

Yeah, but look how incredibly awesome it is. Totally worth it, girl. Come do mine next.

Wait. I don't have a template. Just a header.

Okay, nevermind.

Looking good. And not all blown up or anything.

You're so right, I started tinkering with my template a couple of months ago, but I never found the time and the energy to finish it.

It looks really nice! Very soothing to the eye. Nice job, Maureen! Now go take a nap or twelve!

Wow...you's like an html goddess or something!

I actually called myself that once, but I worked from a template. Still...it sounded good.

But you really are!

I'm just amazed that you know how to do a thing like this. I wouldn't even know how. It's a mystery to me, so good for you and it turned out well. Many kudos.

Well done - I'm full of admiration!!

But what are all the links down there? What does it all meeaaaann??

And look, it's still up. And looking great.

I need a drink just for being in awe of your accomplishment.

Ashley: Aw, thank you. Ha! "Bloggity blogger bloggaloo" to you too!

Thanks VP! I am glad it is getting a postive review. I was worried people would hate it.

Unfinished Rambler: Oh yes, I enjoyed TWO drinks (I had to have another for Ann(ie) you know). And thank you!

Jeff: Ha! Good luck to anyone wanting MY help... unless they want to learn curse words in HTML code. I made a few new ones up you know.

Carol: At one point, all *I* had was a header too (that was in-between being nearly done, crashing it and then starting all over again....)

Da Old Man: Not anymore; but I still cringe every time I head back here worrying if it's still here and stable.

be.bart: Unfortunately there was no turning back once I started. It was all or nothing. And I am too damn stubborn to quit.

Kathy: Thank you! And I DID sleep well, finally!

Drowsey: "Goddess?" Nah, more like the "or something"....

The Finely Tuned Woman: Aw, thanks. It just takes patience, and a hellva lot of trial and error (actually way more error than anything else).

Thanks Jay! Which links?? The ones in the Bookmarks thingy under each post? Those are options to add it to those pesky social bookmarking sites.

Violet Sky: I know! And I am glad to give you a reason to drink. I'll join you (heads off to grab another cooler)...

I think it looks great! My DH has been working on a friend's site several evenings over the last 2 weeks and it has been a long and lonely process for him, too. Nice job! (Scary about dreaming in code, though)

It looks fabulous! When I converted from a canned Blogger template to a canned Pyzam template, I soon found myself way in over my head in code trying to make minor changes. I can only imagine how complex your conversion was! I bow to your superior techishness!

Looks great! I'm sure it took a lot of work. Changing a blog is very frustrating to me. I just had a war with adding commentLuv and surrendered. I've decided I don't want it after all.

Ed & Jeanne said...

Congrats. It looks great! I know about getting it done. I recently added tabs across the top too.

looks great! I am often tempted to mess with my very simple theme, but then I realize I know just enough of what I am doing to be dangerous and not enough to get myself out of the danger I will surely get into.

Wow, you did a great job. I would love to figure out how to change my template and not lose my blog roll and links but I don't understand the code and where to insert my blog roll code in the HTML template.
